You a hear commotion outside. Those of you who choose to investigate see several villagers standing outside, looking and pointing to the northeast. Deep in the forest, black smoke rises high into the sky. The source of is clearly a few days of travel away, but it still causes great concern among the townsfolk. Thane Thori joins the crowd of on lookers. "Nothing to worry about everyone." She speaks loudly so that all can hear her above the commotion. "Probably just some crazy fool that started a forest fire on accident. If it were anything serious the Wyrmguard would certainly take care of it." He words ring with confidence but her face suggests otherwise. "Return to your business and think nothing of it. When I find out more I will tell you." Slowly the crowd begins to dissipate, but the villagers keep looking back at the trail of smoke and talking to each other in hushed whispers of worry.

Mod stood from the table and traveled outside to investigate. Hearing the thane he decides to introduce himself and offer his assistance "thane i am the healer mod and i am apart of a group that might be able to investigate the fire. I think you already met our bard tom he told me that that you already hired us to investigate the orcs." He smiles a grin "we are always happy to help."

"Mod is it? We need to know where these orcs are headed." She leads you away from the crowd, speaking is whispers. "Tom, Orewood is a town to the South. The forest is the Greenscale Forest. Clearly we know where the orcs are, but I need to know where they plan on going. i need to know if I need to call on more Wyrmguard, or evacuate my town."

Giving a shallow bow"I will gather my fellows and investigate and also see if we can slow their progress. I think anyone in the surrounding area working in the mines or woods should be found and recalled. Also you should call...wrymguard was it?..it's better to be safe then sorry if we don't return with in a couple of days expect the worst" he look at the smoke with a grim look on his face" I haven't had to do anything like this in a long time thane thori but I will for the safety of the people you have my word"

Seeing his companions head out of the inn towards a bustle of commotion outside, the gnome follows suit and exits the inn with a quick look back at Layella and Not still at the table. But turning back towards the increasing group of townsfolk just outside the tavern he looks up to where the source of everyone's concern seems to be. "Oh my... that certainly doesn't look good." Peering into the crowd he spots Mod, Tom and Throthgar conversing with a woman and heads over to join them. He arrives just as Mod finishes explaining the situation. "What a mess we have here. I agree, we should make haste and see if we can discover the orcs' path. Let's inform Layella, Nott and Ghesh of then situation and move out to the source of this smoke trail. Mayhaps we might inform... er..." He looks to the Thane momentarily. "...I apologize, we haven't formally met. I am Horgrim, an acquaintance of these gentlemen." He turns back to the others. "Mayhaps we might get more information to you, Thane, so that you can prepare your town for whatever threat might be coming this way."

Upon hearing the commotion, Layella immediately heads outside with the others to observe. She and Nott stand side-by-side, looking from the smoke, to the gathered crowd, to the Thane and her attempts to assuage them. "There's our Thane," stated Nott. "That's no forest fire..." Layella started, keen eyes fixed on the distant rising smoke. "Clearly." Nott nodded, with a grin. Nearing her companions, Layella easily overhears their exchange with Thane Thori. She shakes her head, speaking softly: "Would they really have us venture out over a bonfire? It is still some distance from here, and doesn't exactly convey immediate threat, nor definite direction or source..." She looks to Nott, concerned. "This town does not seem entirely helpless, but their Arbiter is already away. Surely, sending off every seasoned warrior in hopes to prevent an unconfirmed threat would not be the wisest course? And should immediate threat persist, there wouldn't be adequate protection for any kind of successful evacuation."

She looks out to the smoke, memories flashing in her eyes. "Still, it is best to be prepared and not need to be, than be unprepared and taken by surprise. Sending a force out would only provoke the orcs into action. Our best plan is to send out one or two scouts to see if they are an immediate threat." Looking at you. "Layella, if these orcs turn toward us, they will wash over this land like a flood. The handful of Wyrmguard here would drown in a sea of unrelenting brutality. If the clan decides to come this way, we must be ready to evacuate these people."

"Precisely why I want to be here," Layella nodded. She spoke with Nott further, then the two agreed on their roles to handle the situation. As Nott went to speak to the Thane about scouting the area in question, Layella grouped her companions, assuring them it would be best if they remained in the town and prepared for the worst circumstance. Once convinced, they headed back to the Tavern as the sun fell.
